Apple equipment has long had the reputation of being virus proof. This is changing, not due to anything Apple has or hasn’t done, but often due to the fact the equipment use software from others that is infectable.

Java is a code used by many websites and has recently been targeted by Ransomware. iPhone users were presented with a pop up screen accusing the owner of nefarious activities and demanding money to unlock the browser. The ‘ransom’ required in the form of an iTunes gift card with the code sent via text message to a designated mobile number!

The funny things:

– the threat is fake as clearing the cache of the browser restores full access, and

– the latest Apple update closes the loophole and prevents the attack.

Moral of the story – don’t neglect Updates and be careful.
