Introduction to the school
Ashdell is the only all girls preparatory school specialising in primary education in the area. With an impressive staff to pupil ratio of 1:11, Ashdell prides itself on offering a unique and individual style of education, providing the pupils with a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which to learn and develop.
Need for MIS
Ashdell required an MIS which, as well as storing pupil data digitally, could also be used to engage with and report to parents online. The school already used a range of communication technologies prior to the introduction of a management information system including their website, twitter and email accounts. They were put off opting for a virtual learning environment (VLE) system due to a number of disappointing feedback results from other schools who often had difficulty in maintaining the system. Put simply Ashdell required an easy to use and well maintained management information system. Mrs Pooley, head of ICT, adds that “after much searching and many extortionate quotes, I came across a name recommended by Becta and a couple of educational ICT forums – ScholarPack.”
How has ScholarPack helped?
Garry, a member of the ScholarPack team, was on hand to provide detailed training to the school staff, during which student details, lesson plans and timetables were added to the system, making it a lot easier for the secretary to locate staff members and classes easily and efficiently. The Parents Portal was opened after further support from Garry, allowing reports that include effort and attainment, pastoral and full reports to be generated and passed on to parents, reducing the need for time consuming hand written methods which led to many extra hours of work per week! Mrs Pooley adds “The Parents Portal has been very positively received.”
What does the future hold?
ScholarPack is constantly making positive alterations to its system in order to make it easier and more efficient to use. “The front end of Scholarpack has changed dramatically since we started using the system. The newest interface is really simple to use and proving much easier for some of the staff who find new ICT technologies difficult”. ScholarPack will continue to provide the very highest standard of customer support, making alterations to the system based on customer feedback. “The support from ScholarPack has been second to none. Any bugs or questions raised by e-mail are always answered extremely quickly (even late on Saturday nights!) and the staff have gone above and beyond in their work. Requests for extra tweaks to suit the requirements of our school have always been carried out quickly and effectively.
